Learn the Basics of Backyard Beekeeping

Upon completion of this course, students will know how to manage honey bee colonies in their backyard for balanced bee health and honey production.

Students will:
  • Gain a general knowledge of honey bee biology
  • Learn about the history of honey bees and state bee laws
  • How to care for honey bees throughout the year
  • Equipment assembly
  • How to obtain your bees
  • How to harvest honey
  • How to recognize common honey bee ailments, pests and their treatments
Focus will be on the Langstroth style hive and related equipment.

At least one hands-on field session is planned.

Course fee includes a book, membership is not included.

This course is open to the public.

Minimum age 14 years old.
